Homeless Program

Homelessness is defined as the situation of an individual or family without stable, permanent, appropriate housing structure, or means and ability of acquiring it. It is the result of systemic or social barriers, a lack of affordable and appropriate housing, the individual/household’s financial, mental, cognitive, behavioural or physical challenges, most people do not choose to be homeless, and the experience is generally negative, unpleasant, stressful and distressing. Homelessness is a problem that affects every South African.

Over the year South Africa’s population has increased as well as the drastic increase in poverty, due to the lack of employment in our country, poverty increases on a daily basis. The increase in poverty means the decrease in affordability, which therefore underlines the main aspect of an individual becoming homeless. “Homeless is more than being without a home. It is tied into education needs, food, security; health issues both mental and physical, employment issues, as well as drug related issues.

At Kairos centre of hope we provide an opportunity for homeless young individuals to come in and participate in this program that will enable or allow them to experience a transformed life.
